I Went to the Wrong Convention in Full Cosplay

I went to the wrong convention. Not in an “oops, wrong hall” kind of way. I mean I fully bought tickets, got dressed in cosplay, got in the car, and started heading to a convention because I thought it was the one with a giant inflatable Derpy Tiger from KPop Demon Hunters.

How the Mix Up Happened

About a month and a half before the convention, I saw a post about a huge inflatable Derpy Tiger that was going to be at Anime Riverside. Since I have a Derpy cosplay, obviously I had to go see him.

Somehow, between seeing the post and buying tickets the night before, my brain decided the event was Comic Con Revolution in Ontario.

The funniest part is that I didn’t even realize until we were already in the car on the way there. I started looking for the Derpy post on Comic Con Revolution’s social media and could not find it anywhere. That is when I realized the Derpy I was trying to see was at a completely different convention.

At that point, we were already committed, so we went anyway. And honestly? I’m really glad we did.

My First Time at Ontario Comic Con Revolution

Comic Con Revolution was a new convention for me, and it ended up being such a fun day. I got to meet Spencer Grammer, the voice of Summer Smith from Rick and Morty, which was really cool. I also met so many sweet people, and a lot of them kept encouraging me to enter the cosplay contest.

I have never done a cosplay contest before, so the idea made me extremely nervous. But after enough people brought it up, I finally worked up the courage to ask about signing up. Then I found out sign ups were already closed.

Almost Entering My First Cosplay Contest

So yes, I missed the giant Derpy Tiger and missed my chance to enter my first cosplay contest by being just a little too late. Very on brand for me, unfortunately.

But I still stayed to watch the contest, cheer everyone on, and admire all the amazing cosplays. There were so many talented people there, and seeing everyone on stage made me really want to push myself to try one eventually. So maybe that is the next step.

I may have gone to the wrong convention, but I still had a great time, met kind people, saw incredible costumes, and left feeling more excited about showing up in the cosplay community.

I guess I’ll see you all at Anime Riverside 2026! Derpy, I’m coming for you.
